International Women's Day (IWD) 2021: We #ChooseToChallenge

This International Women's Day, we join the global community in celebrating women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. By embracing the spirit of Ubuntu — the African philosophy of interconnectedness — we see firsthand, every day, that when opportunities are created for women, they lift up their communities as they lift up themselves.

With our participation in the #ChooseToChallenge campaign, we renew our pledge to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality and continually seek out and celebrate women's achievements. We know that, collectively, we can help create an inclusive world because from challenge comes change.

We strike the #ChooseToChallenge pose, with our hands held high, to show our commitment to challenge inequality, call out bias, question stereotypes, and help forge an inclusive world.

Ubuntu Life Kids School Picture Day 2021

With all the uncertainty and upheaval over the last year, it was heartwarming and reassuring for teachers and students alike to participate in an annual tradition with this year's school picture day. Unfortunately, due to social distancing guidelines, we were only able to take photos of our older kids; nonetheless, it was an incredibly special day. We are proud to share photos of Shooting Stars, our 2021 senior class.

International Epilepsy Day 2021

It is simply staggering that 8 out of 10 people with epilepsy in developing countries do not receive treatment. In Africa, approximately 75% of the 10 million persons with epilepsy live in rural and semi-urban areas where treatment is nearly non-existent. These statistics are particularly egregious given that there are affordable drugs and effective, low-cost programs. Unfortunately, this is not just a developing world problem — 4 out of 10 people with epilepsy in the industrialized world do not receive appropriate treatment.

The 2020 Year In Review: Medical Camps

Since 2008 we’ve held three medical camps a year with volunteer specialty-doctors from Kansas and Texas. When travel restrictions were imposed in April of 2020, we quickly pivoted to meet the moment. First, we hired pediatrician Dr. Joy Masinde, our first in-house physician. And with the support of our US volunteer doctors, we successfully carried out two telehealth medical camps.
