Tribe Heart Spotlight: Unushe Walker

Unushe is effusive about her visit to the Ubuntu Life Special Needs Centre in the summer of 2019: "It was a one of a kind, completely unforgettable, humbling, eye-opening experience."

A teacher by profession, Unushe was working in global development in Washington, D.C, when she decided to change careers five years in. Unushe went on to pursue a Master's in Education at George Washington University. For the last nine years, she has worked as a teacher at the Georgetown Day School in Washington D.C.

Having not traveled to Africa, Unushe wasn't sure what to expect. She hadn't imagined how connected she would be to the kids, teachers, and community at large. She met with the teachers, remains in touch with Mary Kuria (the Foundation project manager), and hopes to return to Kenya when she can. Before COVID-19, she had plans to return with equipment and other resources and supplies for the Centre. In the meantime, she continues to support the Centre as a Tribe Heart member.

Unushe's time at our Special Needs School solidified her belief in the importance of education: "there are so many ways you can invest in development, but I do feel that education where you will see the most significant change." We couldn't agree more!
